You Don’t Have to Earn Rest

Many women have learned to treat rest like a reward.

Finish the work. Take care of everyone. Answer the emails. Clean the house. Check everything off the list.

Then you can rest.

But somehow, “then” never seems to come.

Jesus offers a different invitation: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Notice that He doesn’t say, “Come to me when you’ve finished everything.”

He invites the weary.

Rest is not laziness. It is part of caring for the mind and body God has given you.

Sometimes the most responsible thing you can do is acknowledge that you are tired.

Today, ask yourself:

What would change if I believed I was allowed to rest before everything was finished?

Maybe it means sitting outside for ten minutes. Turning off your phone. Taking a walk. Saying no to one more commitment.

You were never meant to live constantly depleted.

Sometimes faithfulness looks like doing the work in front of you.

And sometimes it looks like resting.
