The Importance of Rest

Many women have learned to treat rest like a reward.

Finish the work. Take care of everyone. Answer the emails. Clean the house. Check everything off the list.

Then you can rest.

But somehow, “then” never seems to come.

Jesus offers a different invitation: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Notice that He doesn’t say, “Come to me when you’ve finished everything.” He invites the weary.

Rest is not laziness. It is part of caring for the mind and body God has given you. Sometimes the most responsible thing you can do is acknowledge that you are tired.

Understanding Your Need for Rest

Today, ask yourself:

What would change if I believed I was allowed to rest before everything was finished?

Maybe it means sitting outside for ten minutes. Turning off your phone. Taking a walk. Saying no to one more commitment.

You were never meant to live constantly depleted.

Sometimes faithfulness looks like doing the work in front of you.

And sometimes it looks like resting.

The Connection Between Rest and Faith

When we rest, we acknowledge our limitations. We recognize that we are not in control. This can be a powerful act of faith.

Trusting God means letting go of the need to do it all. It means believing that He will provide for our needs, even when we take a step back.

Resting can also deepen our relationship with God. It allows us to listen for His voice and reflect on His goodness.

Practical Steps to Incorporate Rest

  1. Schedule Rest: Just as you schedule meetings or appointments, schedule time for rest. Treat it as a priority.

  2. Create a Restful Environment: Designate a space in your home where you can unwind. Make it cozy and inviting.

  3. Practice Mindfulness: Engage in activities that promote mindfulness, such as meditation or deep breathing exercises. These can help calm your mind.

  4. Limit Distractions: Turn off notifications on your phone. Create boundaries around your time to protect your rest.

  5. Engage in Nature: Spend time outdoors. Nature has a way of rejuvenating our spirits.

  6. Connect with Others: Share your feelings with trusted friends. Sometimes, talking about our struggles can lighten the load.

Embracing the Gift of Rest

Rest is a gift from God. It’s an opportunity to recharge and reconnect with Him.

When you take time to rest, you are honoring the body and spirit He has given you. You are also modeling healthy behavior for those around you.

Remember, you are not alone in this journey. Many women face the same struggles. Together, we can support one another in finding peace and holistic wellness.

In moments of anxiety and overwhelm, I encourage you to lean into your faith. Trust that God is with you. He understands your burdens and invites you to lay them down.

You are worthy of rest.

So, take a deep breath. Allow yourself to slow down. Embrace this season of life with grace and patience.

Rest is not just a break from work; it is a vital part of your well-being. You deserve to feel renewed and refreshed.

Let’s make rest a priority. It’s time to reclaim this essential part of our lives.

Remember: You are allowed to rest before everything is finished. Embrace the journey, and let God lead you to peace.
